Awakening Past Lives:
A Guidebook to Self Exploration
By John Z. Amoroso, Ph.D
Belief in reincarnation has been a dominant principle in not only the Eastern religious traditions such as Buddhism and Hinduism but also in many primitive and esoteric spiritual philosophies. Evidence also exists that reincarnation was a prevailing belief in the mystical sects of early Western religions.
Reincarnation thinking is grounded in the idea that we have lived before and that we will live again. It explains that our current life personalities, patterns of behavior, skills, difficulties and even physical conditions tend to have their roots in past lives, and that the purpose of this life is soul growth requiring the resolution of negative disruptive patterns and the enabling of the positive enlivening patterns.
The author’s 20 plus years of experience using past-life regression as a psychotherapeutic technique establishes the fact that specific themes (or complexes) experienced in current life are directly related to the positive and negative complexes formed in previous lives. Expansive literature in the field supports the author’s conclusions.
This book has several features that distinguish it from other prior and current publications on the topic.
- It is one of the few books that provide the reader with a step by step experiential process to uncover and define not only the negative but the positive themes that dominate their lives.
- It introduces an integrated psychological model – Complex Psychology based on the work of Carl Jung – that will focus the reader on the predominant positive and negative themes carried from past lives.
- The experiential exercises in the book allow the reader to regress back to past lives, as well as into what the author defines as the Energetic Chain of Experience (E.C.E. ). The E.C.E. includes between life, before life and perinatal (in utero) experiences as well as biographical experiences.
- Throughout the book the reader is directed to explore and uncover their soul purpose which is a “uniquely creative and dynamic approach to living”.
- Because of the focus on positive and negative themes, and soul purpose, the emphasis of the book is on not only the psychological but the psycho-spiritual dimensions of consciousness.
It is by accessing the “Energetic Chain of Experience” that the reader will gain even deeper insight as to how these themes or complexes function in this life, and how to de-energize the negative and accentuate the positive.
The book begins by introducing the reader to the principles of reincarnation thinking and the laws of karma. It then focuses on the psychic readings of Edgar Cayce that specifically address soul purpose and the influence of past lives on current life experiences. The Cayce readings provide a succinct and modern day explanation of the workings of karma and the idea of soul purpose. In section two, the reader is introduced to the examples regarding the formation and function of complexes in the process of life and past lives. It is in section three that a more detailed exploration of the themes and complexes are explored through reflective exercises and self guided imagery. Finally in the last section, the reader is taken through a series of past life regression experiences guided by a CD of the authors voice. By completing the exercises as outlined, a reader will have the opportunity to uncover and define the themes that influence their lives and the powerful significance of their past life roots that have formed and energize those themes.
Whether the reader is a believer in reincarnation, a skeptic or a non-believer, the case examples and exercises included in the book will provide the opportunity to explore an even deeper path of self discovery.
